I think everything included in ‘Getting Directions’ is true. There are no conscious lies, no lies by omission.
But my thoughts are only as good as my memory and understanding allow. All thoughts are flawed – yours and mine and everyone else’s.
And intentions are one thing, deeds are another. I might intend – to myself and to anyone else – to be truthful, but I have to deliver on that intention. Talk is cheap. All I can promise is that my intentions are good.
When I’m recalling specific people (friends, relatives, acquaintances and anyone else who might otherwise be identifiable) my aim is to only include them to the extent I have to. They might still possibly be identifiable to/by some but, even then, not necessarily with complete certainty. I will maintain their public anonymity. I’m not writing about them. It is likely that their memories, emotions and judgements will be very different than mine. I respect and understand that. And I want to respect their privacy.
