Without being planned, things happen. We call it chance. Coincidence. We say things are accidents.
The other week, on the Unstated main site, a new entry was added about Curating Yourself.
This summer I went on holiday for a week on Dartmoor. I ended up looking back at the week by writing an illustrated journal of sorts, ‘Seven Nights in May’. I’d never have forecast I’d do this; nor was it an existing intention. But, out of the blue as it were, I found that I was doing just that – curating myself.
Was this by chance, a coincidence? I wonder whether it’s more a case of awareness. You become aware of something – a notion, a goal, a fact, whatever – and then, as if by chance, instances of it crop up.
That would go some way to explaining this unplanned-for convergence that I’m experiencing. There’s a commonality between some aspects of ‘Seven Nights …’, ‘Unstated’ and ‘Getting Directions’ which I’ve recently become far more aware of. Indeed, this commonality, and its consequent boredom factor, was a closing thought on the last entry of ‘Seven Nights …’.
In turn, the entry prior to this one in ‘Getting Directions’, looking at dreams, rationality and emotions, looms up too. By chance? Probably not. Yes, it’s picking up with older thoughts but it’s also expanding upon them in new, unforeseen ways. That’s a huge positive. And what’s more I’m finding that this gives a fresh context to the trains of thought that I was starting to ponder at the end of ‘Seven Nights …’.
Reading the above, I’m aware it’s easy to think it’s all a confusing mess (!). To the extent that that’s a valid thought then I’d say that’s fair enough, in that life isn’t inherently simple. But if you stand back, really all I’m saying is that there are a bunch of different aspects to life that I’m now more aware of than I was before. And so I need to alter what I do accordingly. If you look at it like that, then a) I’d be foolish not to, b) it’s no big deal, and c) it’s something to celebrate.
You can find ‘Seven Nights in May’ here, and, although it’s a longer read, I hope it’s entertaining in its own right. After all, we all travel to some extent, and we all think about things to some extent. And who knows, it might inspire you to curate your own life.
As for me, I’m now thinking, so, what’s next?
